Running Down Our Dream

October 2011 - FL, AZ
October 24 - 30, 2011 - AZ
Monday, October 24. Our day started with a trip to the dentist for our biannual cleaning appointments. All is good except I have a tooth that is starting to give me some trouble and when the time comes, it will need a root canal and a new crown - to the tune of $1900. Yuck! I'm hoping that I can hold off until I get back to AZ in the spring - and then a trip to Algodones might just be in order.

I went shopping for stuff for our Halloween costumes this afternoon - nothing complicated - I will post pictures the night of the party.

Rudy and Sonja took off from Florida today on their trek to Sedona. They will stop for a couple of days on their way. We are so looking forward to their pleasant company again. Safe travels!

This evening we joined Chris and Norm for happy hour. Frisco and I got to go for a ride on their new golf cart with Chris and Josie - he really enjoyed it. I think it reminded him of his days as a work dog at Watersedge in Rockport, TX. Whenever a golf cart passes us, it sparks his attention.

Wednesday, October 26. Last night we had a special treat for dinner - thanks to Norm and Chris. They had never had grilled lobster tails or shrimp before, so they offered to buy the stuff if we would cook it. No problem there. I marinated the shrimp and we just seasoned and brushed the tails with butter and Mike cooked them to perfection. The seafood complimented with fresh bread and salad made for a delicious dinner - thanks again to Norm and Chris.

Louie requested that I include some of my favorite recipes - so here goes:

Spicy Baked Shrimp

1/2 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon honey
2 tbsp Cajun or Creole seasoning
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 pinch cayenne pepper
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, cleaned, large shrimp
1 pound uncooked , clean, large shrimp

Combine ingredients in 9 x 13 baking dish. Toss shrimp to coat. Refrigerate 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 450. Bake until shrimp are cooked through, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve with lemon wedges and French bread.

I spent the morning preparing food for this weekend's visitors, Rudy and Sonja. I want to be able to visit, not hang out in the kitchen.

This afternoon, I went to the pool to hang out with Lois and Cathy. While we were enjoying the day, a couple of guys came to take a sample of the water - they had reported to management that they got a fungus from the pool. YUCK! They felt that management wasn't doing anything to rectify the situation, so they were taking a sample in for testing. I took a shower at the pool and again at home with lots of soap to hopefully ward off any ugly stuff. They really should notify the residents if a problem like that exists. They are slackers when it comes to maintaining this place.

We had a relaxing rest of the day and watched a silly comedy movie tonight, "Due Date" with Robert Downey, Jr. Like I said, it was silly but we got some good laughs.

Friday, October 28. The house was cleaned and the spare room was set up for guests by 11:00 and we were able to just relax until Rudy and Sonja arrived at about 3:30. It had been a long day of driving for them, as they came all the way from Roswell, NM and drove in all kinds of weather including rain and snow before getting to the desert. They arrived safely and were happy to look forward to a couple few days without having to do a lot of driving.

We had an enjoyable dinner of Ben & Jill's Pasta and Italian Turkey Meatballs - recipes to follow, Louie. It was so nice to enjoy a nice dinner and much lively conversation together again. By the time 9:00 rolled around, we were all yawning and drooping from the long day.

Turkey Meatballs

1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated fresh Parmesan cheese (1 ounce)
1/4 cup 1% low-fat milk
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 garlic clove, minced
1 can fat-free (14-ounce) less-sodium beef broth, divided
1 1/3 pounds ground turkey (light and dark meat)
Cooking spray

Preheat oven to 450°.
Combine first 10 ingredients in a large bowl. Add 1/4 cup broth to mixture; stir well. Crumble turkey over breadcrumb mixture, mixing with hands just until blended. Shape mixture into 24 (1-inch) meatballs. Arrange meatballs in a single layer on a jelly-roll pan coated with cooking spray. Pour remaining beef broth into pan. Bake at 450° for 25 minutes or until done. Discard broth

Ben & Jill's Pasta

6 Roma tomatoes (6 to 8)
1 bunch green onions
1 tbsp capers
3 pepperoni peppers (3 to 4)
Feta cheese
10 Kalamata olives (10 to 12)
Penne Pasta

Cook chopped tomatoes, add other ingredients and simmer until thickened. Cook pasta. Place pasta in bowl, top with sauce, sprinkle with feta cheese.

Friday, October 28. Our day started with a walk with Frisco, a stop at the clubhouse to show Rudy and Sonja around the facility, and then we continued our morning walk.

When we got back home, I made some reservations so we could take a boat tour of Canyon Lake. We had some breakfast, got ready for the day and headed east to the Superstition Mountains, making a quick stop at the Goldfield Ghost Town, snapped a few photos and then headed back on our way to Canyon Lake. It is only 12 miles from Apache Junction and who would ever think there is such a large and beautiful lake so nearby. There is not only one lake, but a series of 4 running in a west to east direction, starting with Roosevelt, then Apache, then Canyon, then Saguaro Lakes.

We saw lots of beautiful rock formations, some marsh lands, a Great Blue Heron, an Eagle's nest at the top of a large rock formation, and hoped to see Big Horn Sheep but no luck there. The captain told us that they spotted 2 of them along the shore the day before. The last time I read Mark and Renita's blog, I learned that they had seen several recently when they stopped at a vista point along the way to Tortilla Flat. It was a beautiful day and the 90-minute boat ride was quite enjoyable.

From there, we headed to Tortilla Flat for a bit of lunch, a colorful Arizona spot with thousands of dollar bills on the wall, many are signed and dated from all over the world.

Back home, we took a little rest, caught up on the latest news, and then headed for Organ Stop Pizza for the evening. We knew that this would be a place Rudy and Sonja would enjoy thoroughly. They were quite happy when our request of "Edelweiss" was played just for them.

Sunday, October 30. Yesterday, we had a nice walk followed by breakfast and then we headed to the golf course. I ended up with a score of 37, not bad since the experienced golfer, Rudy, had 33. Mike quit counting and I don't think the score mattered to Sonja either. It was enjoyable and I would definitely like to do it again. Thanks for the clubs, Dan!

We relaxed around the house for a few hours before heading to downtown Mesa. We found that an arts and crafts show and some entertainment was going on at the art center. We just missed the Mariachi band but were able to see some dancers in their colorful traditional costumes from various states in Mexico.

Ben and Jill sent a recent photo of Charlotte and I can't resist posting it here - she is changing so much, so quickly. Charlotte - 8 weeks old. Every time I see her picture (whenever I open up my phone), it just makes me chuckle and feel happy. We're really looking forward to spending the next 6 months with her, Ben and Jill.

When we got back home, we had dinner followed by a lively game of Farkel.

This morning after breakfast, Rudy loaded the car and we all headed to the flea market, one of Sonja's favorite activities. When we finished shopping, they left for Sedona where they will vacation at a timeshare for the rest of the week. We were hoping to join them but it doesn't look good, as we have so many things to get done before we head to San Francisco - and we're tired. Tired of running and just want to take advantage of being at our home while we can. I hope they understand.

I got a pleasant surprise this afternoon - a phone call from my youngest brother, Russell. The last time I talked to him was over 2 years ago when I was visiting Stoughton. He recently got married and we only learned of it through rumors. He says he is happy and enjoying married life.

Tonight was the Halloween party at Brentwood. Mike had a great idea for a costume but he decided he was just going to go as himself. There were some great costumes and The Roadrunner Band was great, as usual. They always manage to get people out on the dance floor. The winners of the costume contest were the pope, the waiter and waitress, and the nun. As usual here at Brentwood, it was a good time.

I can't resist posting a picture of Charlotte in her first Halloween Costume - what a sweetie!

October 17 - 23, 2011 - AZ
Wednesday, October 19. Where has the time gone? We have been busy, busy, busy.

On Monday morning, we had breakfast with Paul and Karen before they left. We then proceeded to convert the guest bedroom back to our office space. We've got it down, it only took about an hour.

I Won! I Won! When I opened my e-mail on Monday afternoon, I learned that I had won an 18-month license for Avira Internet Security - from an entry I made through Facebook. An annual license costs $59.99, so that was definitely a good news e-mail. I have been using the free version for several years now and have been quite happy with their service - no nasty viruses for me.

This evening, we went to Allan and Sharon's house for a barbeque with 2 other RVing couples that crossed our paths while wintering at Watersedge, Rockport, TX in 2007-08. We have had several reunions with Mark and Renita and keep in touch with them through their blog, Doing It On The Road (see the above link). Jim and Nancy's blog has been added to my links. We didn't meet them at Watersedge, as they were there the year after we were, but we did meet them at Allan and Sharon's barbeque when they passed through here 2 years ago. The nice thing about meeting RVing folks is that eventually your paths cross again and you can reconnect. Personal blogs keep us informed of their whereabouts, interesting places to visit, RV park reviews, and sights to see when we travel. The 2 couples that are still full-timing are both planning Alaska trips next summer - I will just have to enjoy their writing as that is not in the plans for us yet.

What an enjoyable evening we had full of lively discussion, plenty of laughter, and lots of good food. In some ways, it made us yearn for the full-timing lifestyle again.

Mark and Renita invited us to visit them the next day to see the results of their rock collecting throughout the United States and their jewelry making efforts. I am impressed! They learned their craft just 2 years ago and have been cutting and polishing stones and wire wrapping them to create beautiful pendants, earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Their skills have been refined through that time and their pieces are gorgeous. Check them out at their Etsy website. They gave me a beautiful gift of a wire-wrapped pendant made from part of a pottery shard from Jean Lafitte's pirate treasure. When I read about the pirate's endeavors along the Gulf coast and Grand Terre Island (where they collected it), I learned that it is possible that it could be a piece from Napolean. Thank you, Mark and Renita - I will treasure that little piece of treasure!

Connie came over in the afternoon to do a final proofing of the memorial card for Danny. We got the OK to print them up. Mike has done a wonderful job of putting that all together - I think Danny would be proud.

Today we went shopping for additional paper and ink to print the rest of the memorials.

Norm and Josie came over for happy hour this afternoon and Chris joined us when she got back from her casino trip. We caught up on the last couple of months that have passed since we saw them in Wisconsin and we had a nice dinner together.

Friday, October 21. Now I have a new iPhone. I have been resistant to the change although my phone has been locking up and getting slower and slower over the past couple of months. I upgraded to the iPhone 4 for $99 and later learned that I could get $65 for my old 3G through ModMyI.com and Mike can get $135, so both of our new phones will end up costing us only $110.

Mike was hoping that if he took his original iPhone (we have been using it for a bedroom clock) that they could reset it and activate it only for use as an iPod or anything that doesn't require a phone or data connection but they couldn't do it. He will have to try at an Apple store another day.

Needless to say, I spent most of the rest of the day getting the new phone setup. Today, I learned that I had multiple phone numbers and addresses for many of my contacts, so I manually deleted all of the duplicates and sometimes even triplicates. Technology...

I've been hungry for a meat loaf, so I made one. I put it in the oven, went outside to do something and when I came back in - it smelled like the meat was bad. I then remembered that it sat in the fridge for 3 days before getting used, so I put it in the freezer. The smell wasn't bad when I was prepping it, but bad enough that it had to be thrown away. Darn! What a way to ruin the plan for a nice dinner. Mike got right on it, called Vito's to order a pizza and we went to pick it up.

Saturday, October 22. It was a day with no plans, so I decided to check another project of the list of things to do before we leave for San Francisco. On the way home from my morning walk, I stopped by the RV storage lot and pulled the motorhome out of it's parking spot and parked it in front of the house.

It was a while before I could get started to shampoo the carpet, as I couldn't get the electricity to work. Frustrated, I asked for Mike's help and he identified the problem right away - we had it plugged in to the generator when we got home a month ago. I then needed to have some breakfast and then the phone rang, so I had a nice conversation with my friend Pat back in Wisconsin.

I finally got back on track and got the bedroom and hallway carpet cleaned before it got too hot to go any farther. Later in the day, when the sun started to go down, I finished the cab area and the dinette. It works good to do small sections at a time, as it is an awkward process. I use one of the "Little Green" shampooers that is designed for cleanups but it does a wonderful job when you are down on your hands and knees - kind of hard on the old body. I've had professionals do it in the past, but I think I do a much better job this way.

Once the sun stopped beating on the motorhome late this afternoon, I got the vacuuming done so it would be ready to go tomorrow morning. And now for a restful evening and maybe a movie.

Sunday, October 23. After coffee and a walk, I was ready to get going and finish up the carpet shampoo job. I had to have it done before 10:30 as I committed to help make sandwiches for Danny's memorial service today.

When I got to the clubhouse there were already about 6 women getting ready. The tables were beautifully decorated and the sandwich making project went quickly.

Somewhere around 100 people showed up it was a very heartfelt and moving service. Bruce told some stories about how he got to know Danny and what a wonderful, helpful, friendly, smiling person he was. He sang a few of Danny's favorite songs and then passed the mike around to others in the crowd that wanted to share their experiences. He then sang a few more songs and we all joined in to sing along. It was light-hearted, personal, and a very nice celebration of his life. The take-away was that he greeted new residents to the park as if they were long-time friends (me included), he loved working with his hands and never hesitated to offer his help, he loved his cowboy hats, country music, dancing, and most of all, Connie and his family and friends. His presence is missed.
October 10 - 16, 2011
Monday, October 10. Walk with Frisco, water exercise, shopping, finish sewing project, clean up house a bit, pool with Mike, happy hour with Jan, Jim, and Connie, light dinner, movie, bed. Busy day.

Tuesday, October 11. Another busy day around the house. I made a Green Chile Chicken Enchilada casserole this morning to share with Monica tonight and Paul and Karen on Friday night when they arrive.

Then I got busy watering the plants in my yard and doing some yard cleanup. The morning was so beautiful - a perfect temperature, bright blue skies, and the birds around here so active; hummingbirds, Cactus Wrens, Peach-faced Lovebirds, Gambrel Quail, Gila Woodpeckers - just love having all of that activity. And then there are the bunnies that constantly strive to drive Frisco nuts. You can't believe how they have devoured one of my paddle cactus plants. One of the branches is drooping to the ground and they have eaten a good portion of the leaved. That thing has huge thorns on it, but they don't seem to bother the bunnies.

Early this afternoon, we headed to the pool for an hour. It is just perfect these days, usually a couple of people to chat with while we get some much needed exercise.

Monica joined us for dinner tonight and we had a really nice time with her. Lucky girl, she is off to an all expense paid first class trip to Hawaii with a friend who is being rewarded for performance at his job. How nice!

I went through the pictures in my old photo albums tonight and they sure brought back lots of memories. I think I've been feeling kind of melancholy lately, probably since spending time with Jonnie and Marty. After facing something like that, you really come to appreciate what you have in life and I have so much to be thankful for.

Wednesday, October 12. Happy Birthday, Hoovie! We were busy this morning getting the house cleaned for weekend visitors. Paul and Karen are joining us, although we won't see much of Karen because she is coming to Mesa for a class. We will have to make the best of the evening with her.

We can check the flu, shingles, and pneumonia (Mike) shots off our list - we took care of them this afternoon. After that, we went to Garcia's for lunch and we believe we have found a very good Mexican restaurant not very far from our house. By the way, thanks Pat and Roger for the recommendation - it took us long enough to check it out. Very tasty!

Thursday, October 13. The week is flying by so quickly. I had the luxury of walking up to the coffee pot this morning, pushing a button, and 5 minutes later I set my cup under the spigot and got fresh coffee. That is such a change from the French Press method we have used since the last coffee pot broke; boil the water, grind the coffee, pour the grounds into the french press - messy static grounds to clean up, fill the press, wait 4 minutes, plunge the press, put in thermos to keep warm - and was the process for every 4 cups. I love the taste of the coffee but got tired of the mess. So we'll try this for a while.

Friday, October 14. What a nice day, starting with one of my favorite activities - garage sales - with 3 of my Highland friends, Jan, Connie, and Vicki + Jan's sweet little grand-daughter, Montana. We ended up going to about 10 sales and all of us found something that we just had to have. It was a fun morning.

Paul and Karen, our friends that retired to Prescott Valley arrived about 1:00 and we had a great visit - only until Mike called the local Apple store and learned that they had the new iPhone in stock. That was on Paul's list of things to do this weekend in the big city, so the 2 of them took off for the nearest Apple store and Karen and I sat here and talked. When the guys got back to the house with their new 4s iPhones, it was time for dinner because Karen had to get to a Reflexology class that she is enrolled in at Tempe.

Guess what we did while Karen was at her class tonight? - if you guessed iPhone stuff, you got it right. I took Frisco for a walk and met up with some of the usual TGIF folks at the clubhouse.

Saturday, October 15. While Karen was at her class today, Paul wanted to do some shopping that he can't do up north in Prescott Valley. First on the list was the Ham Radio Outlet. I was glad to see that there was a Ross right next door and I talked myself out of everything that I picked up or thought I might need. On to Cabella's Sporting Goods - a gigantic store with everything hunting, fishing, camping, boating, ATVing, and much, much more. Eat your heart out, Dan. Again, we resisted spending too much money - I bought myself a nice tiny little flashlight for walking the dog at night.

We picked Karen up after her class and headed for Monti's La Casa Vieja for dinner and met up with Allan and Sharon. We enjoyed a *bleep*tail at the bar and then a delicious dinner - there was a lot of yummy beef at the table. You have the option to have the filet wrapped in prosciutto ham and that is so much more tasty that bacon. Yum! Yum!

Back home, we enjoyed the cool night air on the patio for a while before heading to bed.

Sunday, October 16. After a day full of activity yesterday, today was just the opposite for all of us except Karen, who spent another day at her class. The rest of us lounged around the house, talking, reading, and napping.

This evening, we picked Karen up and headed to Organ Stop Pizza for dinner. They were impressed, as is everyone else that we have taken there. We enjoyed a salad, pizza, and beer while listening to the music. Karen was tired, so we only stayed for one set before heading back home and an early-to-bed night.
October 3 - 9, 2011 - FL, AZ
Monday, October 3. I started my morning with preparations for a family dinner tonight. By 9:00, I had a pot roast in the slow cooker and all the veggies that will compliment it cut up and ready to be added later. Marty s learned last Friday that her sister Diane from South Carolina and her Aunt Cindy from Louisianna are coming for a visit today. Marty was so excited and happy to see them, she watched the clock ticking away until they arrived about 10:00 this morning.

I had a nice Skype conversation with Ben and Charlotte this morning - she is sure changing day by day.

Now I'm going to give you some background on this family that only came to know each other in the last 3 years. Her sister Diane and an older brother Archie were children that Marty's mother gave up for adoption before Marty was born. Later, Marty's mother married the man that became Marty's father - she died when Marty was 13 years old and Marty went to live with an aunt - her father's sister. Nobody ever told her she had any relations on her mother's side, nor of any siblings. Her Aunt Cindy was working on her family's geneology and was able to locate both Diane and Marty. At age 51, Marty learned of the relatives and has been in contact with them ever since.

It is so sad that all that time passed, they all have so many common characteristics, mannerisms, and questions about their past. What a couple of sweethearts. We all talked nonstop for several hours before Marty needed to have a nap, as did Diane and Cindy. We will get together again this evening for dinner and more nonstop talking. Jonnie's grandson, Colton and his girlfriend, Dierdre joined us too.

Tuesday, September 4. The morning was beautiful and we enjoyed our coffee while sitting on the porch. Marty was cheerful and feeling good again this morning, looking forward to spending time with her family again.

I decided to let them all have some time together and I went to visit our dear friends Rudy and Sonja (from Switzerland) at their home in Dunnellon, about 40 miles from here. Driving through the countryside brought back many memories of the 3 years that we lived here, especially as I passed by the community of Oak Run where we lived. I also got to drive by my favorite Live Oak tree, a gigantic ancient thing that I have always admired and looked forward to seeing whenever I drove that route. It's still there, still covered with Resurrection Fern, and still gorgeous with it's giant limbs bending to the ground. I love it!

It felt so good to get hugs from Rudy and Sonja again. As usual, Sonja went out of her way to make a delicious meal that we could share while we talked as if it was only yesterday since we last saw each other. We had many good stories to share with updates from all of our families and also some sad ones to share about those who are not so well or that we have lost.

When I got back to Jonnie and Marty's, their company was still there and we visited some more. Tomorrow I fly back to Mesa and it will be so nice to see Mike and Frisco again although I am not looking forward to saying goodbye here. I'm glad that I came when I did because we have had a good time doing projects, shopping, sharing meals, meeting Marty's family and a few friends, and best of all, lots of laughs.

Wednesday, October 5. It was a long day of traveling but I made it home safe and sound. The first leg was to drive to the airport in Tampa, no problemo. Next was the flight to Charlotte, no problemo. After that, the flight to Phoenix that was late getting in, then a delay because of a problem in the cabin, we boarded almost an hour late and learned that the plane was brand new, this was it's 2nd flight, and the problem was with the cabin communications. In other words, the wi-fi was down. I landed in Phoenix about an hour late, Mike was waiting for me at the airport, and boy, did it feel good to see him and Frisco again. I'm tired but glad that I'm back home again.

Friday, October 7. Yesterday was hang around the house, catch up on laundry, spend time on my computer, enjoy my yard and patio, and be with Mike and Frisco. Since Mike had to change his routine while I was gone, he is now accompanying me on my morning walks. I really enjoy the morning and it's nice to have him along.

Today was Costco and grocery shopping day. When I got home, I made a grape salad to take to TGIF tonight. Mike has been working on a memorial card to be given to the friends of our neighbor, Danny, who passed away last May at a memorial for him in a couple of weeks. He had printed up a draft, so Connie came over to check it out - she had some minor changes so it's not quite ready yet.

We had a nice time at the TGIF tonight with the usual group of friends enjoying dinner together. The grape salad went over well and I got lots of compliments and requests for the recipe - that always feels good. I also volunteered to make the gravy for the pork loin and got many thanks for that too. This is such a nice place to live and be a part of.

Saturday, October 8. I was wide awake at 4:30 this morning, laid there tossing and turning and finally got up at about 5:15. After reading the news and writing a couple of e-mails, I got involved with my sewing project again. I discovered a couple of mistakes and ended up taking it all apart and starting over. I remembered my Home-Ec teacher from high school saying, "As you sew, so shall you rip". That certainly was the case today. I made good progress and have only a couple of things to finish up on the first of two pieces. When complete, I will post a picture.

Mike went over to Connie's to help her with her computer and when I stopped for a break, I walked over there to see how it was going. I think he taught her quite a bit and helped her to get it cleaned up and operating more smoothly.

We had a nice Skype conversation with Ben and Charlotte, she was bright-eyed this afternoon, starting to make little cooing sounds and grasping on to Daddy's fingers tightly.

After talking with Ben, I noticed that Marty was online so I checked in with them. She has been exhausted ever since I left on Wednesday. I talked with her a bit and she sounded tired and totally worn out. So sad, so sad.

Sunday, October 9. What a busy morning I've had - maybe I have lots of energy because I had a great night of sleep last night. That hasn't been happening a lot lately so I talked to my doctor about it and she said she would call in a prescription for me. This week I got a 90 day supply of Lunesta at a cost of $100 and I'm afraid to try it. The warnings say that you could sleepwalk and not be aware that you have done it. There were stories of people that had gotten in their cars, driven to a takeout restaurant, and woke up in the morning wondering how the packages got there. We'll see.

Nan and Dale invited us to join them for dinner and to watch the Packer game today, so I offered to bring a dessert. So - I baked some pumpkin bars this morning - well, the recipe said they were bars but it is actually a cake. Then, we were almost out of our granola so I made a batch of that too - it's healthy, crunchy and goes great with yogurt - yum!

We just got back from the pool and had a nice time.

It was nice to be with Nan and Dale again. The Packers are on a roll, 5-0. They were losing to Atlanta by 7 points at half-time, but came back and won 25-14. Nan's chili and cornbread were delicious and we came home with enough for a couple of meals. Thanks guys!
October 1 - 2, 2011 - FL
Saturday, October 1. It was only 62 degrees when we woke up this morning, cool enought to want to put on a light shirt while having our coffee. I offered my help in cleaning up the yard, as they have been unable to pull weeds from the beds or do much maintenance at all. We had the weeds pulled and I had the Crepe Myrtle bush trimmed by 10:00. By then, Marty was feeling good and felt like getting away from the house for a while.

Their neighbor Val had a booth setup at a craft fair at a local church, so we went to check out her wares. Marty wasn't feeling real comfortable in her wheelchair in those crowded conditions, so we made a quick stop at K-Mart for - guess what - more Halloween decorations. I will post pictures when we are finished - it kind of looks like a haunted house right about now.

We had a nice evening, Marty felt good enough that she wanted to fix her baked chicken recipe and was it yummy. So glad that she had another good day without a lot of pain, feeling like she wanted to be up and about.

Sunday, October 2. We spent the morning finishing the tasks that were on Marty and Jonnie's list of things to do. I did the indoor cleaning while Jonnie finished up the outdoor stuff.

Marty was feeling tired and our work was done, so I decided to go visit a friend in The Villages. Jim (one of Mike's long time friends from his childhood) had called last week and told him that he and his girlfriend Louise was going to be in Florida over the weekend. I called and they just happened to have a few hours free for a visit. I had never met Louise before so am so glad that it worked out because she is a real sweetheart. We hopped in their little 1929 Ford Golf Cart and headed to Sumter Landing where Jim treated us all to lunch. It was a great visit, although short.

It was a beautiful night, we sat out by the graveyard and enjoyed the evening.
